Traditional methods of food preparation are making a comeback and we are looking for ways to simply include it in our daily routine.

The Story …

Marko Borko was looking for a container that would make preparing kefir easy. When he couldn’t find one, he came up with the idea of creating such a container himself. Together with his bandmate from a group called Y, Andrej Glažar, they decided to turn this idea into something real.

Marko Borko, studied engineering design and gained experience at various companies. He received awards for innovation and outstanding product design in 2012 for Freesit and in 2013 for Tritan.

Andrej Glažar, graphic designer, worked as a creative designer in various fields for over 10 years and gained experience in branding, marketing solutions, and corporate communication.

KEFIR FERMENTER

Kefirko Kefir Maker, the first all-in-one fermenter on the market covering every stage of kefir preparation, was the first project in 2014. After searching for a way to present the idea, gain support, and secure the funds to bring it to life, Marko and Andrej turned to the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. The campaign was very well received by the community – both fermentation enthusiasts and Kickstarter backers. Its success led to production in 2015 and to the creation of a company – Borgla, a mix of our surnames, Borko and Glažar.

CHEESE MAKER & 2nd FERMENTATION

In 2017 and encouraged by people who were already making cheese from kefir, a new tool was presented to the market - Cheese Maker makes home preparation of cheese easier. Again we were blown away by the positive feedback and enthusiasm from people who are into live fermented foods.

What started as a Kickstarter stretch goal soon became our second fermentation range, designed to keep kefir fermenting without grains and let you customize it with your favorite fruits, flavors, and ingredients. Perfect for taking on the go or storing in the fridge, it makes enjoying homemade kefir easier and more fun than ever.

ORGANIC CULTURES

We established our own fermentation facility for cultivating eco-certified cultures. The decision was driven by the growing demand for high-quality starter cultures. This activity is quite different from our product development work, and we also expanded our team to support it, which has proven to be an excellent direction.

VEGGIE FERMENTER

Third Kickstarter campaign came to life in 2020 to expand to a new category of fermentation. The passion for useful design and tasty fermented vegetables and fruits lead to development of the new fermentor used for lacto-fermentation.

SOURDOUGH FERMENTER
